Leather Care & Maintenance Guide

At Kioo Ngozi Leather, we believe leather is more than a material. It is character, presence, and legacy.
Every piece is designed to serve you well and age beautifully with time. With the right care, your leather item will not only last longer — it will develop a richer look and feel that is uniquely yours.

Natural marks, light scratches, creases, and slight shade variations are all part of genuine leather’s beauty. They are not flaws. They are signs of authenticity.

General Leather Care Tips

1. Keep it clean

Wipe your leather item gently with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and dirt.
For deeper cleaning, use a slightly damp cloth and wipe gently. Do not soak the leather.

2. Keep it dry

Leather and too much moisture do not go well together. If your item gets wet, blot it gently with a dry cloth and allow it to air dry naturally.
Do not dry it under direct sunlight, with a heater, or with a hair dryer.

3. Condition when needed

Leather can dry out over time, especially with regular use. Apply a quality leather conditioner lightly and only when needed.
Always test any product on a small hidden area first.

4. Store it properly

When not in use, store your leather item in a cool, dry place.
Use a dust bag or breathable fabric cover where possible. Avoid plastic bags, as they trap moisture.

5. Avoid harsh conditions

Keep leather away from:

  • excessive heat

  • prolonged direct sunlight

  • too much water

  • harsh chemicals

  • rough surfaces that may scratch it deeply

Care by Product Type

Leather Bags

Leather bags should be wiped regularly with a soft cloth to prevent dust build-up.
Do not overload the bag, as this can strain the handles, shape, and stitching. When storing, fill the inside with soft paper or cloth to help it keep its shape.

For oiled pull-up full grain leather bags, small scratches and movement in color are natural and part of the beauty of the leather. In many cases, light marks can be reduced by gently rubbing the area with clean fingers or buffing with a soft cloth.

Leather Shoes

Clean shoes after use, especially if they have been exposed to dust or mud.
Use a soft brush or cloth, then allow them to air out before storage. Shoe trees or stuffing can help maintain shape.

Condition leather shoes from time to time, and protect them from too much water. Never dry wet shoes with direct heat.

Leather Belts

Wipe belts clean after use and hang or roll them properly when storing.
Avoid folding them harshly, as that can create cracks over time. If the leather starts feeling dry, apply a small amount of conditioner.

Wallets and Small Leather Goods

Keep wallets, card holders, and pouches away from overstuffing, as this can stretch the leather permanently.
Clean gently and store in a dry place. Condition lightly only when necessary.

Special Note on Oiled Pull-Up Leather

Oiled pull-up leather is known for its rich tones, soft feel, and the way it changes appearance when bent, pressed, or scratched. This shifting of color and the appearance of marks is part of what makes it beautiful.

To care for oiled pull-up leather:

  • wipe with a soft dry cloth

  • avoid excess water

  • condition lightly and only when dry

  • buff small scratches gently with a soft cloth or fingers

  • do not over-polish or over-oil it

This leather is meant to develop patina. The goal is not to keep it looking untouched, but to keep it healthy, strong, and beautiful as it ages.

A Final Word

Your leather item was made to walk with you through real life.
With time, use, and proper care, it becomes more personal, more beautiful, and more yours.
